Kim James Bey
Kim James Bey makes her Lyric debut as Lena Younger in A Raisin in the Sun and Sally Childress in the staged reading of The Great Society! Kim is Professor of Acting in the Department of Theatre Arts at Howard University, where she has been on faculty for over 18 years; serving as chairperson between 2011-2017. Her acting credits include several Off-Broadway productions: Zooman and the Sign, Salt, The American Plan. Selected regional credits at Arena Stage – recent: Little Foxes (Addie); and, Beneatha’s Place (Auntie Fola) at Center Stage (Baltimore). Additional regional acting credits: St. Louis Repertory Theatre, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Cleveland PlayHouse, and Delaware Theatre Company. Kim is a certified Associate Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework, with multiple credits as a Voice and Dialect coach. Education: Howard University (BFA), Rutgers University (MFA), British American Drama Academy @ Oxford (BADA), National Alliance of Acting Teachers, and The Shakespeare Theatre Fellowship in Washington, D.C.
